Celebration

Families
officially rolled out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer on June 13 at the
Picnic in the Park City Birthday Celebration.
The relaxed atmosphere was a low-key contrast to last year’s high-energy event, giving residents a chance to unwind and spend some quality time with families and friends, much like folks would at a family reunion or church social.
Even the entertainment and attractions were designed to take a back stage to the picnic fun. There were hot dog plates provided by the City Celebrations Committee; historical desserts, displays, and a new cookbook offered by the Historical Society; a silent auction showcasing crafts by Community Brickworks; face painting & games by the Serenbe Summer Camp Staff; and plenty of icy, crunchy snow cones and popcorn offered by the Capitol View Lodge.
To
commemorate the second year of Chattahoochee Hills becoming a city, local artist
Maria Hanson officially put Chattahoochee Hills on the map.
Her whimsical creation entitled Happy Birthday Chattahoochee Hills, features many of the well-known landmarks and scenic attractions, as well as the major streets, which are drawn to scale.
If you missed the Celebration, you can still purchase a map for $2 by contacting Laurie at lsearle@bellsouth.net.
Sisters on the Fly offered a special treat at the City Celebration—the opportunity to tour seven of their customized vintage trailers. This fun-loving group of ladies enjoys outdoor adventures with trailer caravans, fly fishing and horseback riding.
What would a picnic be without children? These Chatt Hills cutie pies entertained us with their softball games, dancing, and just running around, being kids.
While watching a pair of two year olds, I was reminded that our city is two years old – an age that can be both magical and challenging for parents. As citizens who helped birth our city, we have so much to be proud of, and while it can sometimes be challenging to work through growing pains, our city needs our continued support so it can mature into the wonderful vision we know it can be.
